New Scientist App Reviews

Frustrating

When I took this subscription, I had to activate the app, which I was successfully able to accomplish. However, now Im being asked to reactivate the app again. When I use the same email address and password that I used with the first activation, the it no longer works. Customer service is unable to respond in a timely fashion. The other thing I am disappointed with is the quality of the content of this magazine. The articles are superficial and are written more as opinion pieces than as true educational articles. I will not be renewing my subscription.

I luv

NewScientist is so fun

Must have magazine for the science enthusiast

Great depth and scope of articles, up to date news, and explained in terms a novice in any field could understand. Great for staying up to date with the scientific community.

Great magazine, terrible distributor

Ive been reading New Scientist for over a decade. Digital distribution through Zinio was bad, the Reed Publications dedicated app is far worse. The app kept forgetting I was a subscriber, renewals shorted my subscription by a few weeks shy of a year repeatedly. My subscription expiration was confused with a gift subscription I gave, The app finbaly refused to allow me to register (the day I renewed), as did the website. Reed Publications tech support promised to extend my subscription by a few weeks to make up to me the hours of frustration, dozens of hours on hold and numerous conversations having to explain my situation from scratch- instead they set the end date for my subscription a year short. You cant make this stuff up. It took several days of phone calls to finally iron it out, but the jig is up for this awful company. A magazine this good doesnt deserve to be distributed by an organization this bad.

Needs better UI/UX

I love the content, its great. My problem is with the app, not the quality of the articles. The app is functional, but needs UI improvements and iPhone 6/6 Plus support.

Excellent App

The content is exceptional. The app is not spectacular, but it does the job well of presenting each issue in a very readable way.

New Scientist rocks

As a long time reader who has saved decades of issues, Im finding the delta reduction mass/volume (bits/picometer^3 vs paper+ink+carbon footprint/m^3) to be proportionally accretive to key quality of life indicators. (i.e. Reduced tripping hazards in the less cluttered home, improved co-habitant relations, etc.) Thank you.

Five Star Magazine...

...but 4 star app. My only complaint is not having the option of seeing issues in magazine page layout as well as the app screen layout. Other than that, I highly recommend the magazine and the app.

Bargain price issues.

At $2/pop, who can complain? Furthermore, with constraints on time, missing the odd issue no longer leads to a pile of unread mags littering up the office. Finally, having quasi-permanent digital access to stuff which would otherwise be hopelessly lost inside a wobbling stack of paper has to be a useful example of entropy decay.

Not much to go on

After two talks with CSRs, still unable to log in. The email and password - which was recorded and entered by my password manager - is still "not recognized". The message directs me to the New Scientist website where I am greeted by a beta site on which the button that should en the log in dialogue box, is dead. Pretty crappy performance for a magazine that reports on science and technology.

Convenient

When I dont feel like reading a jargon-heavy scholarly journal articles on topics I am not an expert in, magazines like this fill the void. I LOVE the digital format of NS, which is more like an e-book than a PDF which is difficult to read on an iPhone. I can catch up at any time, anywhere.

New Scientist is uniquely informative and balanced. Superb

Marvelous

Always illuminating

I have had many hours of reading good scientific journalism. The quality of writing usually very good ...and I like that many of the articles come in nice digestible packages!

A really nice app for a great magazine

Im really liking this app.

Great magazine

Great information, interesting and thought provoking topics and overall great writing. The menu on the side of each magazine and the option to browse through older magazines was very well done. I highly recommend this magazine.

Content at the cutting edge

Though Im sure there are various aspects of the app that may be improved, I for one would like to extend the heartiest congratulations to the new scientist team over the miracle of content and packaging that every issue of New Scientist is. Detailed and thorough, yet, in a language that talks straight to the reader without oversimplifying or over complicating the content. Best of luck with maintaining that magical balance in these fast moving times.

Superb

Fantastic magazine to which I have subscribed for over 4 decades and now that there is an app, I can carry the best news magazine of science with me anywhere and can read it at anytime. Just great!

Absolutely worrhless

I renewed by subscription to New Scientist over a month ago and I am still unable to access the magazine. I was first told by customer service that it would take a couple of weeks and now the app tells me that I dont have a subscription. Amateurish rubbish!!

Top tier science reporting

Excellent blend of briefs on current news with in-depth articles. Very accessible to the well read layman. Down rated by one star because navigation is a bizarre blend of horizontal scrolling between articles and vertical scrolling within. Both too difficult to get to the next article, and too easy (losing ones place in the current article).

Solid App

It has always worked. Very solid app.
